šŸ¢Council support seals major business boost

Expert business advice from our Work and Skills team has helped a Glen Parva firm secure a new £3 million contract.

Business Growth Officer Alfred Bawak (pictured above left) assisted bosses at Summit Engineering to gain financial support from the University of Derby.

The £200,000 in loan and grant funding meant Summit was able to commit to buying specialist new equipment to meet a contract making parts for a Leicester-based arm of a global construction equipment supplier.

The firm plans to invest £850,000 in a top-of the range robot welder, a hi-tech lathe and robotic stacking and loading system, an advanced vertical milling machine plus other machinery and tooling over the next two years.

Manufacture will ramp up in stages with six jobs safeguarded and 10 new roles created.

Whether you're a start-up or well-established business, our experienced Work and Skills team can offer help and advice for your organisation.

šŸ“…Career assemblies

We've had a great response to our call for businesses and individuals to share their expertise and experience at secondary school career assemblies.

But, we're still on the look out for more people, especially from the logistics and warehousing sector. So if you could join us on a weekday morning to talk with year 8 (12 and 13-year-olds) we want to hear from.

Especially if:

  • You have had an unusual career route
  • You have a less-obvious role for your sector
  • Your role involves green or digital skills.
